SHOW NOTES
What is a “high value” partner?
A high value man is a provider, someone who makes you feel safe mentally, emotionally and physically. He is financially stable, makes sacrifices, makes you a priority in his life and puts family first.
A high value man is not the same as a high-earning man. A high earning man makes a lot of money and often times money is the only thing he has to offer.
What’s the key to finding a high value partner?
The key to finding a high value partner is finding yourself first. You must know yourself so that you can easily identify partners who can give you what you want and communicate to them clearly and accurately your specific needs.
The following are steps to finding a high value partner:
Step 1: You must recognize your own patterns.
Most of your insecurities stem from past traumas and/or childhood. You MUST commit to doing the inner work required to fix yourself and heal your past traumas so that you can attract a whole, healed and supportive partner.
Step 2: Make yourself Available
Physical Availability-- Online dating is a great place to meet people. You may also need to go out more, specifically to places where you can find the type of partner you want to attract.
Some Tips for making yourself more available:
-When online dating, set your location to where you believe your potential partner might be. For example, set your location to the more affluent area of town, if that’s where you think your potential partner lives or hangs out.
- When you go to the grocery store or Target, go to the fancy target or grocery to increase the likelihood of finding the man that you’re looking for.
-Wear clothes that you wouldn’t mind your future potential partner seeing you in.
Emotional availability—You must make yourself emotionally available to receive the love you want to attract. This means doing your inner work to heal yourself and cultivating a positive outlook on dating in general by being mindful of the content you consume and the people who you allow to poor into you. For example, if you’re always listening to sad songs that claim, “men are dogs,” you are far more likely to find men who are dogs. You will find whatever you are actively looking for.
Step 3: Set Boundaries and Communicate Them
Know your deal breakers so that you can communicate those and allow men who cannot meet those expectations with opportunities to de-select themselves.
Step 4: Allow Men to be Men
If you treat a man like a child, even a high-value man, he will act like a child. Don’t get in the habit of doing and being everything for your partner. Allow them the space to do and figure things out on their own. This will help them to be a better, more supportive partner to you when you need help.

Show Notes
In this episode, Liku offers some great tips on how to leave your job like a BOSS:
Step 1: Determine Your Next Move. Create a vision for what your next steps will look like whether that may be starting a business or starting a new job. Make sure you have a clear picture as to what your immediate future (1-6 months) will look like.
Step 2: Get Your finances in Order. Quitting your job without another job lined up only sounds good if you have enough money saved and/or financial support from friends, family, significant others…etc. to keep the lights on while you’re in between jobs. Make sure you know where your next mortgage/rent payment is coming from BEFORE you quit your job. You may also want to have a plan for how to continue certain benefits like health/medical/dental insurance without a job.
Step 3: Take Some Time to Reflect. Have a clear understanding of what you liked or didn’t like in your previous role. You want to make sure your new role or career move looks different than the one you just left. Otherwise, you may be leaving a bad situation for an even worse situation.
Step 4: Read the Company Rule Book. Generally, a company may have a right to claim ownership over any work that you create while you’re at work even if you’re creating it for yourself or your side hustle. Make sure you’re following the rules so that you don’t have any issues on your way out.
Step 5: Take Some Time Off. You may need to refer to Step 2 to determine just how much time you can take off in between gigs. However, take off as much time as your spirit and budget will allow. It’s important to take time to re-center and rejuvenate your mind and body before starting something new.
Step 6: Cultivate a Support System. Support of friends and family or even a therapist is super important to successfully navigating big life transitions. Make sure you choose your community wisely.

SHOW NOTES
What is burnout?
A syndrome characterized by chronic workplace stress that has not been properly managed that is specific to the workplace can bleed into other areas of life. There are three dimensions of burnout
- Energy depletion/decrease
- Increased mental distance
- Reduced professional output
How do I know if I’m burnt out or just stressed?
- Stress occurs in cycles, where an event happens, you’re stressed and then the event ends and stress recedes
- Healthy stress should include some type of celebration or rest to complete the cycle to ensure that stress recedes
- Burnout is continuous stress cycles over a long period of time
Can I manage repeated instances stress without getting burnout?
Yes, you can manage stress with preparation and planning in a way that won’t necessarily lead you to burnout. For example, if you know a stressful presentation, case or week is coming up, plan your workouts, meals and downtime in advance. Actually write these things in your schedule. Even if it’s just a 15-minute walk or nap during the workday, put it in your schedule to ensure that you prioritize your well-being. However, repeated instances of stress without proper management will inevitably lead to burnout.
What are the symptoms of burnout?
- Detachment (not really present)
- Loss of concentration
- Fatigue
- Energy depletion
- Headaches/migraines
- Mild depression (i.e. hopelessness and despair)
- Cynicism (for instance everything is terrible, don’t have a positive outlook on life)
How do I know if I’m burnt out or depressed?
Depression is characterized by a deeper and more chronic sense of hopelessness, despair, irritability and/or anxiety that is more difficult to overcome. Mild depressive symptoms may be present in burnout but depressive symptoms associated with burnout are generally more situational/environment-specific and can be cured more easily with a change of environment or habits.
What can happen if we don’t address burnout?
Unaddressed burnout can lead to:
- Depression
- Heart Issues
- Irritable Bowel Syndrome (difficulty pooping)
- Poor Diet
- Hair Loss
How do we overcome burnout?
NOTHING. DO NOTHING. The best thing you can do for yourself when you are burnt out is to REST. You need to reset your nervous system so that it can return to a healthy state of rest. Make sure you’re eating a healthy diet, drinking lots of water, getting your sleep pattern back on track, meditating (if that relaxes you) and engaging in light exercise. Building and maintaining a supportive community is also important for overcoming burnout.

SUPPORT WOMEN. PROTECT WOMEN. EMPOWER WOMEN.
The Supreme Court is poised to make a decision on abortion that could rock the very foundation of American democracy—an individual’s right to choose what “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness” looks like for them. We covered this issue last year when a Texas law went into effect that severely limited a woman’s right to an abortion. In light of the Supreme Court’s pending ruling, we have remixed and are re-airing this episode to once again shine a light on this very important topic.
In this episode of the Sugar Free Podcast, Really Humanizing Abortion-- Discussing the Impact of the New Abortion Laws in Texas, Syd delves deeply into the negative impact that more restrictive laws on abortion can have on young women and their abilities to live a life of their choosing. Join Syd and very special guest, Tiffany Clayton, as they put a name and a face to the process of abortion by having a vulnerable conversation about Tiffany’s abortion journey and her road to finding wholeness and peace post-abortion.

SHOW NOTES
What are taxes?
Taxes are the revenue that the government collects in order to fund public goods and services.
What are income taxes?
The tax that’s imposed against the earned money that you make.
How are income taxes calculated?
Income taxes are calculated by adding together all sources of income (W-2 Wages, Rental Income, Wages you pay yourself you’re your business…etc.) and then applying or subtracting all deductions against all earned income.
How do you reduce your taxable income?
You can reduce your taxable income through deductions or credits. Deductions are amounts that you can reduce your taxable income by to reduce your overall tax liability (i.e. the total amount you owe to the government in taxes).
- You can either apply the standardized deduction or the itemized deduction
- Standard deduction is $12,950 applied to all individual taxpayers who have less than $12,950 in itemized deductions
- Itemized Deductions are individual deductions that can be applied against earned income and can include the following types of deductions
- Property taxes
- State taxes
- Mortgage Interest
- Charitable Donations
- Medical Expenses (up to a certain percentage)
- Marginalized Deductions serve to reduce your earned income to decrease your overall tax liability. For example, if you earn $100 in income for the year and have $80 in itemized deductions, your taxable income will become $20. If your applicable tax rate is ten percent (10%), you multiply the ten percent by your taxable income of $20 to get your tax liability which will be $2
- Tax Credits serve as another tool to reduce your tax liability by reducing your net tax liability directly, dollar for dollar. For example, if your net tax liability is $2 as in the example above, and you have a $1 tax credit, your new tax liability will be $1. Tax credits are very difficult to come by.
- Tax rates are the rates at which your income will be taxed and ranges from 10%-37%.
Pandemic Updates to the Tax Code
- Charitable Donations—This year you can apply up to $600 in charitable donation deductions to your overall deductions even if you take the standard deductions
- Stimulus Check Payments – Stimulus check payments will be applied as a tax credit to your 2021 tax return
What are some strategies you can implement to reduce your tax liability?
- Leveraging retirement accounts
- Put money into a Health Savings Account (HSA)
- If you have a hobby or set of specialized skills that you can monetize, consider starting a business.
When is it time to seek help with your taxes?
- When your tax situation has undergone significant change (i.e. you’ve purchased a home, had a child, gotten married…etc.), consider consulting a tax professional to ensure that you are properly accounting your potential change in tax liability
- When the tax code changes

SHOW NOTES
Let’s start by defining some terms:
Ethical non-monogamy: an umbrella term that includes open relationships, swinging and polyamory, that describes the practice of taking part in romantic relationships that are not completely exclusive between two people, with the consent of all the people involved.
Polyamory: the practice of engaging in multiple romantic (and typically sexual) relationships, with the consent of all the people involved
Open Relationships: having more than one romantic or sexual partner at a time. It's an arrangement that both parties agree is non-exclusive or non-monogamous.
Monogamy: an exclusive relationship with only one partner (sexual and romantic) at a time.
Can you cheat in an open relationship?
Yes, you can cheat in an open relationship. Generally, the participants in an open relationship set the terms of engagement for the relationship. If one of the participants crosses a boundary or breaks a term of engagement, that would be considered cheating.
Is monogamy dead?
Monogamy isn’t dead. People can still engage in healthy monogamous relationships, if both participants put the effort and time into maintaining the exclusivity of the relationship, However, ethical non-monogamy is probably more pervasive than we realize. People just aren’t openly discussing it.
How do you match people interested in open relationships or how do you begin participating in open relationships?
Yolanda: I mostly match singles interested in traditional relationships. But on the rare occasion that I match a person interested in open relationships, I am typically helping them to find their central partners where there is a hierarchy to the relationships.
Bre: I got into open relationships simply because my current partner asked me if I was interested in being in an open relationship. After that, I did my own research and decided that it was something that I would like to try.
What was most appealing to you about open relationships?
Bre: The most appealing aspect of being in an open relationship was not feeling like I had to choose. I don’t have to choose in my platonic relationships, and I like not having to choose in my romantic relationships.
How do you manage jealousy in open relationships?
Bre: You have to do your inner work to determine your insecurities surrounding sharing your partner. I don’t feel like I have any claim of ownership over my partner(s) and so I don’t mind who else they spend their time with, so long as my needs are being met and they are honoring their commitment(s) to me.
Yolanda: Jealousy isn’t unique to open relationships. Jealousy also exists in monogamous relationships. Everyone has to get to the root of their insecurities to manage their jealousy.
Does engaging in open relationships make dating easier (especially for Black women)?
Yolanda: I think it does because it provides you with more options for finding meaningful relationships.
Bre: I have found that it has made dating more difficult because there are a lot of men who aren’t interested in participating in an open relationship.
What advice do you have for those wishing to engage in open relationships?
Whatever you decide to do, just make sure that it feels right for you. Don’t worry about what other people think or have to say. The only thing that matters is your happiness.

Is bitcoin a stock?
Bitcoin is not a stock; it is a form of currency or payment.
If bitcoin is not a stock, how can you invest in bitcoin?
The price/value of bitcoin fluctuates and because it goes up and down, people will exchange dollars into bitcoin with the hope that the value of bitcoin will increase to more than what you paid for it.
How do you pick a good stock?
Step 1 Know the History : Look at how well (i.e. has increased in value 7-10%) a company has performed within the last 6-12 months. You don’t want to invest in a company that hasn’t been performing well over a long period of time (6-12months)
Step 2 Do Your Research: Do some research on the company to determine how it makes money, how much money it’s making and whether the company’s money is growing. You can look at the public report the company provides on its website or check out the news section of a finance app or website to find information on a company. Some good finance websites to check out are CNBC or Yahoo Finance.
Step 3 Make a Decision: If the company has a solid performance history and your research shows that the company will likely continue to perform well, consider purchasing it. If the company hasn’t been performing well and/or your research suggests that it likely will continue to perform poorly, continue passing on that stock.
